Editorial standards
Accuracy before speed
We do not publish a claim that our sources do not support. We keep qualifiers that matter and say what is not yet known.
Fact, analysis and opinion are labeled
News reports what can be established and attributes what cannot. Analysis explains and interprets. Opinion argues a position and is marked as such. Explainers give background and context.
Sources
Each story names the outlets it is based on and attributes material claims in the text. We rewrite in our own words and link to the originals. We treat social media posts and anonymous material as leads, not proof.
Use of AI
We use AI to draft stories from named sources. AI does not report, interview, or verify. It must not invent facts, quotes, numbers or sources. Stories pass automated checks for copying, attribution and tone, and sensitive subjects such as security, casualties and politics are held for human review before they publish.
Tone
We write plainly and make headlines specific. We do not use scare language, invented outrage or manipulative teasers. We do not dehumanize any group, minimize victims, or use collective blame.
Corrections
We correct errors promptly and note the change on the story. See corrections.
