Party Profile: Amcha Yisrael (Ofer Winter)

Profile of Amcha Yisrael, the new right-wing party led by reserve general Ofer Winter, and its threshold risk.

By Michael Osborne · Updated

The short answer

Amcha Yisrael is a new right-wing party led by Ofer Winter, a reserve major general and former Givati Brigade commander. It polls from 0 to 5 seats, averaging 2.9, so it is a threshold risk. Winter says he will recommend only Netanyahu. This profile covers its list and platform.

Who they are

Amcha Yisrael is a new right-wing party led by Ofer Winter, a reserve major general and former commander of the Givati Brigade. He launched it on 25 Aug and the list was filed on 7 Sept.

Leader Ofer Winter
Ballot letter ך (Chaf)
Poll range 0 to 5 seats (average 2.9)
Camp Coalition-leaning, but not yet in a bloc
Space Hawkish, pro-draft, religious-Zionist leaning
Coalition stance Recommends only Netanyahu

The polls disagree sharply. In the same week, Channel 12 had the party at 1.5% and Channel 13 gave it 5 seats. It is a threshold risk, and its fate matters to the Netanyahu bloc's math.

The list: who is likely to get in

The party must reach about 4 seats to enter. If it does, the first four or five get in. Sources disagree on slots 10 and 11.

# Name
1 Ofer Winter
2 Yoseph Haddad
3 Netali Shem Tov
4 Eran Ben-Ari
5 Fleur Hassan-Nahoum
6 Lali Deri
7 Ronen Budnero
8 Davidi Ben-Zion
9 Aviv Ezra
10 Sigal Kraunik-Attia (disputed)
11 Eli Gino (disputed)

Ofer Winter (1). A reserve major general. He commanded the Givati Brigade during the 2014 Gaza war and became a controversial figure in the army for the religious tone of his orders. He later led a division. He frames the party around the war, the reservists and the draft.

Yoseph Haddad (2). An Arab Israeli activist and media figure known for defending Israel publicly and for urging Arab citizens to serve. His place at number two is a signal that the party wants to appeal beyond its base.

Fleur Hassan-Nahoum (5). A deputy mayor of Jerusalem and a former diplomat for the city.

Others on the list. Shem Tov (3), Ben-Ari (4), Deri (6), Budnero (7), Ben-Zion (8) and Ezra (9) have thinner public profiles in the sources I could verify.

Platform and coalition plans

Issue Position
Security Hawkish
Draft Haredi enlistment
Coalition Recommends only Netanyahu to the President

Amcha Yisrael is a bet that voters want a post-7 October military voice on the right. It takes votes from the same pool as Likud, Otzma and Religious Zionism. If it clears the threshold, it adds seats to the Netanyahu bloc. If it doesn't, those votes are wasted. See the Election Math article.
